Lulie C. Scattergood Scholarship
The Lulie C. Scattergood Scholarship was established in 1937 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, California Division, Children of the Confederacy, with an additional bequest in 1996 from the Elisabeth H. Becker Trust, to provide undergraduate scholarships to descendants of a veteran of the Confederate Army of the Civil War (1861-1865).
The original donor, Lulie Chilton Scattergood, established the scholarship in memory of her father, R.R. Chilton, a Confederate Surgeon. She was born February 7, 1867, shortly after the war’s conclusion in Michigan and passed away January 23, 1968.
While UCLA administers the award, eligible candidates may attend any UC campus who meet the criteria established by the Confederacy, California Division, Children of the Confederacy, and approved by the Education Committee. Please visit the United Daughters of the Confederacy, California Division website to apply.
