Mel Pollner Prize for Best Term Paper
The department will award a prize of $250 to the best research paper or critical essay written by a Sociology student within the past calendar year.
Eligibility Criteria
Any Sociology student with a completed research paper or critical essay is eligible to apply.
- Be a Sociology major at the time of application
- Research paper or critical essay completed in one of the following quarters: Spring 2024, Summer 2024, Fall 2024, or Winter 2025
- Paper can be from any Sociology course (including Soc 199)
Application Instructions
Upload electronic copy of paper (including cover page outlining student name, paper title, course number, course title, and quarter completed).
Nomination letter from a faculty member or teaching assistant required. Nominations must be based on the specific paper submitted.
Nominations must include:
1.Student’s name
2.Course number, title and quarter
3.Paper title
4.A statement from the faculty member or teaching assistant regarding the notable strengths of the paper
Evaluation and Announcement of Winner
A faculty committee will evaluate applications in the weeks following the deadline listed above. The scholarship award winner will be notified late Spring quarter.
