Osher Reentry Scholarship
Purpose Details
To support a minimum of 10 Osher Reentry Scholarships at UCLA on an annual basis.
Award Criteria
The donor asks that the following guidelines be followed when selecting Osher scholars:
1. Students have experienced a cumulative gap in their education of five or more years.
2. Students are at the undergraduate level and pursuing their first baccalaureate degree.
3. Students anticipate participation in the workforce for a significant period of time subsequent to graduation and are ideally between the
ages of 25-50.
4. Students demonstrate financial need, not necessarily on their FASFA.
5. Students show academic promise and a commitment to obtaining their degree.
Preference should be given to newly matriculating students. Returning Osher Reentry Scholars, who have re-applied and continue to meet
all other criteria, may be given preference as well. Selected scholars may be either full- or part-time students. No single scholarship should
exceed $5,000.
Scholarships are not intended for graduate students or students seeking an additional degree. It is not intended for students who are
exclusively enrolled in online courses or for international students who are visiting the United States with the intention of returning to their
countries of origin after graduation.
Spending Restrictions
Annual payout from this fund must be at least 5% of the market value as of the beginning of the prior fiscal year. If net earnings of the fund
(determined on a total return basis) are insufficient to meet the required payout and UCLA cannot provide funds from other sources, then
fund principal may be invaded.
It shall be UCLA’s goal to distribute at least $50,000 in Osher Reentry Scholarships each year.
Scholars awards must be applied to student tuition fees exclusively. Funds shall not be used for books, lab fees, child care services or
transportation costs.
Only endowment and investment management fees of professional managers and advisors may be charged against the fund. No other
charges for administration, overhead, indirect or related costs may be allocated to the fund. This prohibition includes the endowment cost
recovery fee and the administrative gift fee.
