Center for Near Eastern Studies Centennial Scholars Endowment for Arabic Language Training

The Center for Near Eastern Studies Centennial Scholars Endowment for Arabic Language Training was established in 2017 to support undergraduate students of any discipline wishing to pursue Arabic language training through a study abroad program (summer or semester-long) in the Arabic-speaking world or through the summer intensive language training at the Arabic School at Middlebury College or comparable intensive program at an approved university.

The UCLA Center for Near Eastern Studies (CNES) will determine the amount and term of each awarded scholarship. The scholarships may also include the following additional selection procedures and criteria:

  • A CNES Faculty Commitee specially constituted to evaluate applications to the Center for Near Eastern Studies Centennial Scholars Endowment for Arabic Language Training will be convened.
  • Applications from students who have completed at least one prior year of Arabic language training at UCLA and will be in their second or intermediate year of language study during the award term will be given preference.
  • Evaluation of the applications will also take into account the relevance of Arabic language training to the major field of study of the applicant .
