Helen Matthewson Memorial Scholarship

The Helen Matthewson Memorial Scholarship Fund for full-time UCLA College undergraduates, with preference to partially self-supporting continuing, transfer or re-entry students with demonstrated financial need and a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher, was established in 1997.

Applicants must demonstrate that they are:

  • At least partially self-supporting
  • A California resident
  • A U.S. citizen

Applicants must maintain a minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA and be enrolled during Fall, Winter, and Spring Quarters. Award amount varies and is renewable.

    • Are you partially self-supporting at present?
    • If yes, what employment do you hold at present that provides that partial self-support? Please briefly describe your role, how long you have held the position and what motivated you to seek employment.
  2. What career goals and other factors motivated you to attend UCLA? To what extent do you need supplemental financing? What other pertinent information would you like to share? (The essay will constitute a sample of your writing.)
  3. Have you filed the FAFSA or Dream Act Application?
  4. LETTER OF REFERENCE: Please provide the name and email of an instructor, counselor or administrator who will provide a letter of reference on your behalf. Be sure to obtain permission from your recommender before submitting their name and email address. Your recommender will automatically receive a link prompting them to upload the recommendation via the UCLA Scholarship Portal. It is critical that the recommender meet the deadline or the portal will close and your application will be considered incomplete.
