Los Angeles Chapter of the Links Scholarship

With preference to African American students who have financial need and display leadership qualities and a demonstrated commitment to community service, the Los Angeles Chapter of the Links Endowed Undergraduate Scholarship was established in 2000 to support UCLA College undergraduates.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above.
  • Applicant must submit an essay of at least 500 words, subject of which will be: “How will you use your education to improve the quality of life in your community?”
  • Applicants must agree to attend one Link meeting and/or one Link function (function fee to be paid by the Links) to be determined by the Links each year.

Preference will be given to students who are African American with demonstrated financial need according to the standards of the UCLA Financial Aid & Scholarships office, display leadership qualities and consistently have demonstrated a commitment to community service.

    • How would you (briefly) describe your relationship to any African American communities, large or small, geographic or otherwise? Please describe any activities or involvements that you consider most relevant. If you do not consider yourself an African American student, please write 'not applicable.'

  3. Do you have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater at your current institution?

  5. Should I receive the Los Angeles Chapter of the Links Scholarship, I hereby agree to attend one Link meeting and/or one Link function (function fee to be paid by the Links), to be determined by the Links, each year that I hold the scholarship.
  6. Please upload a current resume that focuses on your key leadership and community service experiences.
  7. Please write a 150-word bio in third person that summarizes your key leadership qualities and accomplishments, as well as your level of commitment to, and key achievements in, community service. Please also include a brief statement of current career goals.
  8. LETTER OF REFERENCE: Please provide the name and email of someone (not a peer or family member) who will provide a letter of reference on your behalf that speaks to your leadership qualities and consistent commitment to community service. If the recommender can also speak to your activities or involvements related to any African American communities, that would be a plus, though not necessary. Be sure to obtain permission from your recommender before submitting their name and email address. Your recommender will automatically receive a link prompting them to upload the recommendation via the UCLA Scholarship Portal.
