Edythe M. McGovern Memorial Fund
The Edythe M. McGovern Memorial Fund was established in 2016 by the estate of Edythe M. Mc Govern ’’55 ’63 to provide one or more undergraduate and/or graduate scholarships to non-traditional students. The donor expressed a preference for a self-supporting woman or women of academic excellence, returning to or beginning undergraduate or graduate studies after a prior interruption of 5 (five) or more years in her full-time student status during the 7 (seven) years preceding her application.
In awarding the scholarship(s), preference shall first be given to women in the fields of English and Theater Arts, and next preference to women in the field of Political Science. The initial award of any scholarship hereunder shall be for a period of one year, but the scholarship may be renewed from year to year for any recipient who maintains academic excellence, through completion of undergraduate as well as graduate studies, including a doctorate degree.
Note: UCLA administers all identity-conscious financial aid and scholarships in compliance with federal, state, and university regulations by using a “pool and match” application process for unrestricted awards, identity-conscious awards, and other restricted awards (major, need, community service, etc.). Identity-conscious awards may include a preference for a student’s race, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, color, ethnicity, or national origin. The pooled application process allows students to submit a single “general” application to be considered for multiple scholarships, and are used in determining the source of a recipient’s aid, but NOT their eligibility, receipt, or amount of financial aid.
